But I use 256 kbps m4a for my aestethic iTunes library, 320 kbps mp3 for my Android phone.

Maybe I'm deaf as hell, but the whole audiophile thing does nothing for me - the difference in lossless or w/e doesn't really mean much to me, so I just use whatever is the easiest compression form and compatible, so m4a/mp3s.

You can't really hear the difference except if you have top notch speakers or headphones.

FLAC is probably the best option in the long run. I'm mostly using MP3/M4A.

Both FLAC and Apple Lossless (ALAC) use "lossless" compression which means that the source audio file is compressed, but without sacrificing any of the audio information contained in the master recording.
