We're witnessing the pop act most known for shocking visuals and outrageous looks toning down her aesthetics. What for? It's easy to argue that the public answered very well to the Gaga they have seen ever since C2C started. A Gaga that focused more on showcasing her talent than her wardrobe.
I have always seen Gaga very happy and comfortable when she's on a piano rocking it out. So, has she always been hiding her true self because of what's best for her in the music business? I feel like she's always enjoyed the "freaky" stuff and saw a gateway in it to stand out in the music business, play the fame game as she once said. However, that's not to say she wouldn't feel more comfortable losing some of that stuff, which after a while must become tiresome.
Is that to say Gaga is a normal pop act? Hardly so. Gaga loves theatrics, it's in her DNA. So, this visual aesthetic that we will probably see during this new era is probably meant to introduce audiences to an easier to digest Gaga, a pop act that people focus more on the music rather than on the persona.
I think this is good. We've already seen Gaga do the outfits and the freaky performances. The cat is out of the hat. So, considering I do think she is one of the best performers of her generation, I'm interested to see how she'll blend pop music with this new look.
Gaga is constantly reinventing and finding herself. At this stage in her life, she's rejected the stereotypes and expectations people keep placing on her. You could tell that she wants people to listen to her music, which will always be the most important part of who she will always be, a musician. She also a huge fan of rock music, and is always finding inspiration in the rawness of the genre's lyrics and sound.
Gaga doesn't have one single "true" identity. She is constantly exploring different aesthetics and creating different personalities for the general public, which adds an element of excitement and enigma. She's given herself a platform to transform into whatever she so pleases whenever she so pleases.
If you want to see her personality without her usual satire, watch the Anderson Cooper interview.
She has always worn comfy band t-shirts, no heels, and little makeup when out of the public eye, just like most people put on pajamas when they're staying inside. I think this gives her a grungey look she relates to (which she was actually pushing to be the look of BTW but her label denied this idea), while she also relates to high fashion when she's in the mood.
Gaga can literally be anything because she loves to explore. Right now she's exploring what it's like to dress "normal."
She's just reinventing herself, as ya'll said she HAD TO DO after the ARTPOP era. I'm slightly surprised cause the reaction to toning it down post-Born This Way was to tell everyone to get fkd and then she ramped it up.
