Actress-activist Laverne Cox is a hero to many, but in the new issue of Cosmopolitan, the Orange is the New Black star pays homage to some of her heroes in a stunning photo shoot with photographer Ruven Afandor.
And Turner faced abuse in her life in “a brilliant, beautiful way.”
Africa, meanwhile was the first trans model to score a major campaign, appearing on the box for Clairol’s Nice & Easy Dark Auburn, No. 512.
“She was a black trans woman who modeled in the ’70s, and had cosmetics deals and a hair contract with Clairol— it was a big deal,” Cox said. Sadly When the industry learned Tracey was trans, she lost her contracts and bookings.
This year, though, Clairol invited her back to participate in a new Nice & Easy campaign.
