It was already explained above but to add more, let's take for example the Today's Top Hits playlist with more than 10M followers. Imagine putting your song on that playlist, you'll surely get a lot of exposure. But of course, you need to have your pay check ready. Not that it's a bad thing though. It is just the same as advertising your song, like putting your song under Hot Tracks on iTunes or discounting it.
