Whitney has the bigger peak, Celine has the longevity (for obvious reasons).

Most label it at as "Whitney Houston/Various Artists" or just "Whitney Houston." Itunes labels it as "Various Artists."

Actually, 25 million. I overestimated. Still a huge album, which was the point of my post. The Bodyguard is HER album. Don't be sorry, just be right next time.

Whitney was still more global at her peak. Not only did she have the best-selling female album and soundtrack out, but she was star of the second highest grossing film of that year and embarked on one of the biggest tours of that year, which touched on 5 continents. Her reach was broader during her peak than Celine's. I Will Always Love You is also the best-selling female single ever. That song alone is more global than any single Celine released at her peak.

And NARAS states that if an artist or producer performs at least half of the recordings, then it's their album. Which is why they awarded Album of the Year to her and the producers and not the other artists. RIAA and Billboard also acknowledges it as a Whitney album. If The Bodyguard isn't Whitney's album then Saturday Night Fever isn't The BeeGees' album.

You have to stop priding yourself on being so willfully ignorant. The RIAA recognizes TBG as a Whitney Houston album.
RIAA > you.
And so does the Grammys, the AMAs, the BMAs, and practically every trophy awarding body across the globe

You have to stop being ignorant. The information is just a click away.
And Celine was local to the French Canadian world, and her albums did next to nothing outside of that market. Also note her 80s releases were regularly outsold by Whitney's albums in each non-English market.
The Bodyguard is by far a more global album than Falling Into You and Let's Talk About Love.
Whitney was more global. She had hits across the globe, and at her peak, she toured North America, South America, Europe, Africa, Asia, and Oceania. We can not say the same for Celine.

Hmmm it's interesting you overestimated it at this exact time.
I have another source that has a different number.

When did I say it wasn't a huge album?

When did I claim it was not a huge album? Please show.
Right. Roughly 10 million. Saying it sold 10 million and roughly 10 million is basically the same thing.

But Sound Scan does not agree with you in saying The Bodyguard is a Whitney Houston studio album. Sound Scan considers The Bodyguard as a soundtrack.
What Whitney Houston studio album has sold 30 million?
Even her certificate says Original Soundtrack Album.

It's obviously Celine
She sold more WW than Whitney in her career and I'm sorry but Whitney's never had a tour as big or as global as the Taking Chances tour.
I'm from the caribbean and she's a force there. Her songs are known and loved. Even the french african countries stan her.
The Bodyguard was obviously a bigger peak but we're in 2016 and she's still debuting with over 200K WW.

"Whitney vs Celine : More global at their peak?"
Gosh. Where is the comprehension skill.
Whitney was a true SUPERSTAR in 1992. She was present in media, was a successful actress and singer, had the biggest female song of all time in one year. Celine is just a very successful songstress. It's like saying Adele's peak is higher than Britney's.

Commercial wise, she was.
OT: peakwise, if Bodygueard really IS seen as a 100% Whitney album, she wins.
but Celine in 1997 was really close tho, and she also wins the long run

According to her biggest selling album, her debut one, she didn't. The Bodyguard is not a Whitney album.
ST:
13 million (US)
24 million (WW)
Falling Into You:
11 million (US)
30 million (WW)
Let's Talk About Love:
10 million (US)
30 million (WW)
Whitney: more than the half oh her total comes from the US
Céline: about one third of her total sales comes from the US
MHWGO was on two albums, both of them sold 30 million+ WW.
I really don't get your logic when in TWO YEARS, Céline sold more than 60 million albums (90 with the Titanic Soundtrack even though it's not her album). How can a peak be bigger than that?

That's why she has WAY MORE impressive certifications all around the world I guess?
"next to nothing"
Whitney Houston
Falling Into You
Let's Talk About Love
Not alone the certifications are way higher for Céline but moreover she has way more. Isn't it obvious at this point?
