NJ School Budget Cuts

Chris Christie is officially the worst governor in NJ history for cutting school aid in 222 school districts including teachers, vice principals, guidance counselors, and all sports and extracurricular activities.

WHY? Because he felt it was "unneccessary" for the wealthy (those making over $400K) to have a surtax, which would've saved NJ education $900 million! Which would've meant no cuts!

God, I'm so tired of these corrupt politicians helping the wealthy and trying to push the middle and lower classes into complete poverty. This isn't England in the 1600s. It's 2010. Do something right. Get Chris Christie impeached. Corzine was so much better!

Everyone needs to work together to take this pig down. And there needs to be more background checks on these politicians campaigning for governor. They want the power so badly it's sick. Washington did not create our country on these terms.

The nobles and gentry in England in the 1600s actually subjected themselves to tax.

Oh I certainly don't mean to say that there was no polarisation between classes in England and every other western nation for quite some time because there clearly was, but the prime example of the upper class getting a huge tax break (as in, paying no taxes at all) is the French nobles pre-Revolution.

Why can't we get a decent governor in NJ? Both candidates were horrible for this election and NJ is so corrupt. Corzine was going to raise toll prices by 50% EVERY 4 YEARS. These politicians are insane

Kansas City, Missouri is losing half of their school in a few months. I know how you are feeling. But the schools that are getting closed over here are going to be used for shelter for homeless students and others.

That is not a terrible plan actually. The money had to be made in some way. It is a much better plan then what Christie is doing there. We have our own problems up in NY too with a horrible governor. The only saving grace is that the mayor of NYC (Bloomberg) actually does a pretty good job.

The problem with a lot of politicians is that rich people invested in their campaign to be mayor, governor, senator, etc... and now once elected, they basically owe those people a favor. That is why we like Bloomberg in NYC. Being one of the richest men in the world, he used all his own money to get elected and owes nothing to anyone. I may not agree with everything he does but at least I know he is doing what he thinks is best (and you can't say that about people like Christie).

yeahh i dont think christie is this evil guy who wants to ruin new jersey... he probably went through tons of different scenarios of how to lower taxes and save citizens money and this was the least damaging for the general public..... we will have to see how everything plays out.

No. Corzine was at least more genuine, and he inherited all of the state's issues from past governors. He supported the gay marriage bill (showing his genuinity) and he supported education, which is a big plus. Thanks to the polar opposite (Christie), teachers are losing jobs right and left. Unemployment is going to skyrocket thanks to this airhead.

Corzine has to be one of the worst governors Jersey has ever had. He did nothing but raise taxes and he was generally disliked by the population. His approval ratings went down 40% when he proposed the toll hike and I've never heard a single person say they liked him. Don't forget that he also made huge cuts to colleges and universities in NJ and hundred of classes and athletic programs were cut as well.

Generally, what Christie is doing is not essentially right, but it maybe an only option for repairing the debt in the state of NJ. Many school districts (such as my own) raise their budgets every year and want more, but that just can't happen. Christie has promised not to raise taxes as Corzine once planned and he also plans to lower property and business taxes in NJ
