If we were talking sales, the question would be about sales. Alanis Morissette' 30m selling album didn't translate into star power. Why do people think someone appearing bigger then their sales is a drag? It literally means that they hold cultural and media power that others do not, which in essence is star power. There is a reason most people have heard of Bjork despite not owning her music. Cultural relevance.

Y'all are saying Bey paid to have University courses based on her & for most of your favs to worship the ground she walks on? lol, ok.

Rihanna has nothing but a couple of cute his on streaming chart honey. Lol looking at how Beyoncé fares in the last few eras, she's coming for Madonnas throne, keep getting all the cash but on top of it still be relevant to pop culture aka people still know her new hits and willing to pay to see it LIVE, whilst Rihanna struggles to sell anything but free streams.

In the end of the day, people remember, sing and dance to Rih's songs WAY MORE than they do to Bey's. The US is so obsessed with Beyonce. Outside of the US, even in Canada, Bey isn't nearly as loved/popular.
