Artist that do not need hype in order to succed?
Pink is one example of this. She doesn't sell that much on the first week but she still end up selling great numbers

Rihanna. She lets the music speak for itself (she has had countless #1s this decade) and needs no media propaganda or hugely ambitious PR campaigns. She's effortlessly cool, and popular by being herself. Her personality, which is too real for pop music, even if she's messy at times, resonates with the masses...and her talent speaks for itself. She's global for a reason.

Beyoncé, she lets her music fare against whatever generic radio trash is being released today. Unlike her peers, she doesn't need to hop onto trends to get a quick little number one. She cares about individuality, not sucking up to the GP to be relevant. She has never done any of the sort because she's the textbook definition of a true musical artist. Poor her peers.
She also touches on controversial topics in her music that are relevant today, while certain others are singing repetitive one word choruses because it's "catchy!!!1!"

I'm not trying to drag Rihanna but what about the 3 singles prior to ANTI, the diary and all that? It all created hype.

Urban influenced music is slaying everywhere right now, while pure pop doesn't do it since 2012, (except for a few exceptions). Stop making it seem like if Beyonce is making some kind of alternative record with 20 minutes long songs or something like that

Beyonce career is based on hype, don't even try
And woo slay at that Rihanna shade when she went #1 with a dancehall song, the previous dancehall #1 was released in 2006

! She can release an album out of nowhere and goes to #1 in 100+ countries. No need to release 3 FIRST singles preaching about how "artistic" she wants to be, countless tweets with a hashtag, promo for a whole year, pointless dairy ads running during award shows 100 times and during the biggest TV shows to keep buzz going after push back after push back and to finally release "first single" (4th single) with the hottest rapper at the time after the other 3 failed. And those "artistic" songs nowhere in sight. To end up debuting in the top 30 in the first week and struggling in 500k range.

Pitbull. He has very few rabid fans who hype him up but a lot of his songs end up doing well. Best example I could think of.

lol literally no one has made it big without it. Even Adele has it. How do you think she gained that much steam with 21 to begin with?
