He also gets the 250k back if he paid the full amount and attends court. If he took the cheap way and paid 25k for a bail bondsman he doesnt get it back.
Like a poster above said, juries convict someone more who can't post bond vs someone who does (if this even is a jury trial.) Lastly, it allows him to make money in case of an appeal if he loses.
