Idk about MTV but I think they thought that a Beyonce - Britney, 1-2 punch moment could work, but it turns out one moment overshadowed the other moment. I don't think MTV sabotaged her or something. They just expected too much.

EVERYBODY expected way too much. I was even duped by her VMAs commercial. It's time for everyone (especially stans) to accept the fact that Britney will never get that old thing (passion and electricity) back.

With that being said, her performances in the last year or so have been the best she's done this decade. She looks more engaged and not like she's a million miles away.
