Like I've never seen anyone in the UK talk/mention/quote the video or song. I actually like it but whenever I quote it or mention it - it goes everyone's head.
Just because the song (and video) received a lot of media attention and critical acclaim it doesn't automatically make it iconic. New Beyonce music post-ST will always go viral. But neither the song nor the video are iconic (yet).
People need to learn what "iconic" means. There has to be something in the Formation video that everyone will instantly associate with it and nothing else. Single Ladies is clearly iconic because if you get three people dressed in leotards doing synchronised choreography, you'll instantly think of SL. Same with Thriller and the dance or Britney and the schoolgirl outfit and pink hair bobbles. Just because Formation is well received and popular, it doesn't mean it is iconic.
