Well ofc. There are tons of artists in the audience at the VMAs, artists who also vote for the Grammys later in the year.

So everyone who makes an impression there, wether it's negative or positive, will have influenced these artists.

I believe it. VMAs are known for creating controversy, and the Grammys wouldn't want to associate themselves with controversy, I'd think.

Except Rihanna opened the VMAS in 2011 and was on the Grammy stage in 2012 and 2013...so....and Taylor, Demi, and the Weeknd all performed at VMAS and Grammys in the past year. So I call by on this.

Rihanna has the chance, then.

Beyoncé is absolutely guaranteed a Grammy performance.
Rihanna will probably have one.
Ariana and Nicki could get slots.
Chainsmokers will perform if they get a BNA / Dance Recording nom.
Nick could probably get onto the Grammy stage as part of a tribute.


So I don't think anyone really hurt their chances of performing at the Grammys last night.

Yeah but those artists are either really big gets or were the biggest in their respective years, so there was no way the Grammys would let go of the chance of having them perform just because they also did the VMAs.

I think, if anything, that this rumor might be true in that it could help explain why the VMAs seem to have a harder time getting performance lineups together each year. Or having big names even show up to present and/or receive awards.

If their managers/agents feel like the VMAs are irrelevant and will negatively impact their shot at performing at the Grammys, I could see them discourage artists from participating or even just attending.

The Grammys have been just as trash as the VMAs in recent years so....
