MTV were just incompetent. The hosts were terrible and the setup was a disaster. RIh and Bey were never going to be able to save a 2.5 hour show alone.

I couldn't bear watching the entire thing and went to sleep after like 20 minutes

it's because the era of big stars is pretty much over, the GP stans for indie unknown artists dominating the charts so there's no new iconic stars coming through - everything is so disposible...

also no Katy or Gaga
