'Formation' was a huge pop-culture moment. Whether you liked it or not, the video, song, and subsequent Superbowl performance were in the headlines for weeks. The video by itself was game-changing, its commercial success was just limited due to it being a private video on YouTube and a Tidal exclusive, which was given away for free.
Lemonade as a project was game-changing and you merely need to look at the album's Metacritic page to discern that for yourself. COUNTLESS think-pieces are still being produced analyzing the visuals, spoken-words, and songs included on the project. Art causes conversation, and this project continues to do that. If you didn't care for the videos, then that's your opinion.
And Bey won Pop because what other category do they have for songs with mainly R&B sounds? They even relegated Bryson Tiller to the 'Hip-Hop Video' category. Bey is still a mainstream pop artist she deserved to be nominated and to win. MTV and the voters agreed. There was a reason she led the pack with 11 nominations.
