I'm of course rooting for Viola Davis's win, especially after she was robbed for "The Help." According to AwardsCircuit, which I use in place of GoldDerby--and have always been accurate--Emma Stone has a pretty good shot of winning for lead for "La La Land" so i'm definitely interested in checking that out.
Nicole Kidman's career over the past ten or so years has been abominable. I hope she finally has (another) Oscar's comeback.
Oh! Also rooting for Greta Gerwig's first oscar nom!
I suppose we can agree that Birth of a Nation is DOA
Yep. He has left a void in the BA category that's why I think Denzel is going for his 3rd oscar
Passengers, Arrival, La La Land, Manchester By the Sea & Hidden Figures (I hope Taraji doesn't screw up) are the movies I'm most interested in, for now.
- I hope Chastain gets a nomination, but we'll see how the film is received
- I want Annette to snatch a nom too
- Viola has the Oscar on lock, Denzel could surprise and get his third too
- I hope Michelle wins supp actress
- I can't wait for La La Land
Possibly, but Billy Lynn's Walk is her better shot. Cafe Society only has generally favorable reviews (71 on meta, 64 on RT). Billy Lynn's Walk should do better.
Speaking of Billy Lynn's Walk, I'm curious about Ang Lee's chances of winning Best Director again. Only 3 people have won more than twice in that category.
Kristen Stewart's nom for Billy Lynn is in the bag. Y'all not need to worry, it's not even fun to bet on it, it is THAT sure. And everyone is predicting a box office smash ala American Sniper for that movie. She doesn't even need to campaign for it.

It is not that certain tbh. The only Ang Lee movies that managed to get acting nominations were Sense and Sensibility and Brokeback Mountain. I know the Academy owes Kristen Stewart a nomination for snubbing her for COSM but an Ang Lee movie doesn't guarantee an acting nomination, then again I am still predicting her to get a nomination, she's been doing such great work in recent years they can't ignore her forever.

That's because of racism.
Asian actors are invisible to Oscar voters so major Oscar contenders Crouching Tiger and Life of Pi were ignored for their casts.
Other Picture or Director winner standouts since 1960: Slumdog Millionaire, Last Emperor.
Hacksaw Ridge looks really good. Mel is a great director. I think it might surprise.
I think so too (and I have a very low tolerance for war films). I'd love to see Andrew in Best Actor (may be a longshot, but I'd love it). His accent in the trailer kinda slays me.
I've seen a bit of speculation that Mel Gibson's anti-semitism may hurt the film's chances.
It occurred to me earlier that the Golden Globes divide Dramas and Comedies/Musicals into separate categories, which means that La La Land (along with Gosling and Stone) will have a pretty clear path to the trophy while everyone else dukes it out in Drama.
I'm not sure the extent to which GGs predict Oscars, but things look pretty secure for LLL.
