It peaked at #4, hardly "massive", and their album has sold less than 100k copies. They didn't prove themselves to be a big force in pop culture at all. A performing slot would have been generous.

Because Ariana Grande has a much bigger fanbase, is a bigger celebrity, and her album outsold 7/27 total sales in its first week. It's not just about the one hit.
