I'm sorry but this is simply not true.

Some people use youtube as a streaming service, which means they only put the song on and don't watch the video, they just put it on their playlist and it counts as a view. If the song is good the video will be 'watched' proportionally.
That Rihanna/Calvis song is the perfect example of this. The vid is atrocious and it's been dragged to hell and back for how plain and boring it is yet it still got 513,727,959 views. Videos only do good if the song is good.
