A friend of mine said it stems from escapism or living vicariously through someone else..but idk.

So what do you think? Why do gays stan as hard as they do? I know little girls stan just as hard but no other adults and late teens stan as hard as gay guys do (or so it seems).

for the same reason straight people are obsessed with sports. it's fun

We stan as hard as any other demographic. We ARE a very loyal fanbase though which is why so many people pander.

I dont think its much different than how a lot of guys or whoever typically obsess over sports, call the teams "my team", and refer to the players as if they know them. Comparing stats, fantasy leagues where they pretend theyre like the owner of the teams or something, etc etc etc. Generalizing: we treat pop stars like other people treat sports. But were gay so its considered a joke while fantasy football is an unembarrassing hobby.

Because we all secretly want to be pop icons and wear flashy costumes on stage. i'm joking

They dont' at all. No one stans harder than teen girls do (eg: One Direction, Justin Bieber, N*Sync, Backstreet Boys, etc.)

Oh and straight men stan sports more than gays ever could stan female popstars.
