Since when did musicians need to be rich? god they have gotten so greedy.
Have you tried being a musician? The vast majority are dirt poor. Secondly all those people who work on the records have to be paid. People think musicians just make the music themselves. Why should others get paid more than the content creators. If the people can't survive off the music they make they will stop making music.
Mess @ the source being MacRumors. It's not a complete fabrication though. Spotify knows it needs to attract more subscribers if it is to pay labels more, and they haven't done that yet (though they still have more paid subscribers than any other service).
And DEAD at the Apple fanboys acting as if Spotify is evil and Apple Music is the saviour of the industry. As if Apple did anything to protect the artists from getting screwed over during their 8-year long monopoly on singles sales. Cut the act. The artists are ALWAYS going to get 0.0001% of their streams' revenue, regardless of the service, especially if their own deals with their labels are awful
First at all - Spotify payout model is more complicated than '70% share' (55% for masters right holders and ~15% for publishers). They pay advances ($2.5m - $4.0m for North American SME), pay per streams. There's also some minimal rates per stream and per user.
Second one - Spotify paid more than 80% of its revenue music industry last year and still has operating loss (+180m EUR).
The problem has never been with Spotify, though. It's always been with greedy labels taking almost all of the profit from streams. Them reducing revenue for streams isn't as big of a deal as what labels do to their artists.
So? Maybe their salaries should be lowered since the product they're selling is not as "profitable" as it once was. Who's to say every celebrity must be rich?

This doesn't just affect the Beyoncés.
Newer artists (who don't have money) are earning basically nothing from the music alone, which is why touring is essential now.
Songwriters get hit even harder since they have no means of touring or selling merch.
