Social video app musical.ly is partnering with MTV to give fans a new way to determine the summer's top song. "Musers" are being encouraged to create custom videos using nominees for song of summer at this weekend's MTV Video Music Awards. Each video submission will act as a vote in the category, which includes tracks by Calvin Harris, Drake, Justin Timberlake and Selena Gomez, and members of the musical.ly community can use "likes" to bolster their favorite artist's position.
A winner will be chosen based on the volume of content generated with each eligible song during the campaign, using the hashtag #VMASongsofSummer. The nominee with the most votes will be announced live during the pre-show of this year's VMAs, being held Aug. 28 at the Madison Square Garden in New York City.
