You just shouldn't bite into one. Sichuan cuisine is awesome anyway. The peppercorns are quite numbing and then the heat from the chilis hits you. It's really a sensation at first, but now I've gotten more used to it.

You can also try chili oil, but don't buy the ones from stores. It's super easy to make your own. You just have to watch out that you take the sichuan peppercorns out when the oil gets hot and not to burn your chiliflakes.

but there are also lot of indonesian restaurants, chinese takeaways and italian restaurants here and there.
I wouldn't say it's a France in terms of cuisine, but you can definitely find a nice, affordable restaurant somewhere

I remember when I went to England last Spring and tried this pudding bread thing?? I didn't know what it was but I loved it and everyone else hated it. (I was partly in awe because it was my first time out of the US so I was a little shook.)

Next fall/Spring I plan on doing a semester in Australia (if scholarships work out right) and all I see online are Vegemite sandwiches and ****. Is there anymore go to Aussie dishes??
