They were shut down due to a lawsuit for exposing the sex tape of a racist homophobe (Hulk Hogan). Said lawsuit was sponsored by a white billionaire gay (Peter Thiel) that supports Donald Trump, Gawker had previously outed Thiel.

It turns out that Peter Thiel funded most of the lawsuits against Gawker, including the Hulk Hogan lawsuit, in which Gawker has to pay him $115 Million

they do quite a bit more than just celebrity gossip and Buzzfeed is generally pretty insufferable

Regardless of how much of an asshole a person is, I think it's just common sense that infringing into someone's privacy via exposing a sex tape WILL get you in trouble I don't feel sorry for Gawker. Also, outing someone against their will is just awful (unless it's a politician campaigning against LGBT)

I wish someone would have taken PerezHilton's site away. I'm glad I don't hear much of anything from him, but still.

The $115 million verdict is the biggest ******** I've ever seen. Intentional infliction of emotional distress? LMFAO. If he wasn't a hasbeen celebrity, The jury wouldn't have awarded him a fraction of that.

While he might not have been a politician campaigning against LGBT rights, he has actively supported and donated money to politicians doing the same, so that puts him on the same standing, to me
The initial point, I kinda agree, but I just can't bring myself to care or feel for Hulk Hogan.
