Hey, Pitbull nor Flo Rida are having problems, so I wouldn't laugh. Dance is in and if he does it right, can be successful. Plus he's a big name, so the album might sell.

Well it's a business..you move with the eras. You don't see Justin, Britney, Xtina still doing 1999 bubblegum pop now, do you? 50 was still trying to do the whole "hard gangsta" move and that's so 2003. You don't keep doing the same thing if it's not working...well some dumb artists do, but he's smarter than that obviously. About time, though.

But that's not the same; Hip-hop =/= pop. They are very, very different. And it's Gangsta Rap.


He's not smarter (though it can be seen that way), he's desperate. He has often criticized other rappers for making pop music or going commercial in order to stay afloat then he goes and does the same thing. For someone who loves what they do he sure is abandoning it, and that could be seen as selling out. Why alienate the fanbase you have left? Why say you love something then ditch it to sell? That makes no sense. Yes he could be moving with what's "in" now while still being inside the genre of music that he makes, but that's not what he's talking about. That's like Timbaland continuing to say that he's a Hip-Hop producer when he knows he's been making Pop music for the past few years.




And those three still make pop music. This is a whole different genre.

50 Cent has always had dance hits.

- P.I.M.P.
- Candy Shop
- Just A Lil Bit

These are all singles that had crappy lyrics and just sounded good in the clubs! Nothing hear to talk about. This should work fine

It's not different. Of course the genres aren't the same, DUH, but the fact that he's changing with the times is a business aspect. And they are still making pop music, but it's a different kind of Pop. Hence me mentioning "1999" and "bubblegum". What 50 would do is just a different kind of Hip-Hop (Flo Rida, Pitbull) dance type stuff. There are even more hip-hop artists who do the dance type, that aren't as mainstream as well.

The bolded part is exactly what I mean. It can be seen as a smart move, or it can be seen as desperate. EITHER WAY, it's smart. Never denied your opinion. It could be a desperate but smart move because this way he has a chance at regaining success. I also haven't read of 50 dissing rappers going commercial. He has songs like "In Da Club" & "Candy Shop". Don't confuse it with him saying 808s & Heartbreaks wasn't a rap album (which it wasn't).

And how do you know what he's talking about? Are you implying he's confessing that he is selling out? According to the quote he got an inspiration, and even says the same thing about making different kinds of music. Your Timbaland example also don't make an inch of sense.

You just listed commercial rappers (they make club bangers but still remain Hip-Hop). That's not a different kind of Hip-hop. Like Water For Chocolate and Arrested Development would be a different kind of Hip-Hop.

Which is why it seems like a desperate move. You don't alienate your fanbase for another that lives by "you're only as good as your last hit." It's not for the sake of being experimental. That's not him at all. It would have been better if he went the route of The Wu-Tang Clan.

It's not different because it's a transgression of a genre. I'm pretty sure he's going to be rapping over these club/dance beats, therefore it'll be a type of hip-hop. Yes I listed them, because right now that's the obvious sound he'll be. Unless he comes out singing over these beats, he'll be rapping on club bangers.

Like I said, never denied the desperate part. Just said it's smart. Call it "alienating", he'll possibly become successful again which is all that matters. Artists lose/gain fans all the time. Britney "alienated" her young fans when she went sexy for "Slave" and on, and many other examples.

I've seen him vocal about certain other rappers/artists, but never about being commercial. If you can find one, then I'll shut up about it. Those examples weren't dance, I was showing that he has commercial songs, so if he did call out others for being commercial, he'd be contradicting his entire career as he always has had commercial songs. Kanye's album is not rap. He is singing on the tracks, that is why autotune is used. Kanye himself called it a pop album, and spoke on how he sung more than rapped.
