My guess is that she's not on good terms with the VMAs since what they did with the Applause performance. But that's just my guess.

Gaga and her team are hopefully smart enough to be professional about the VMAs/MTV. It's good publicity so she needs to suck it up. I think the Britney thing is more likely - they're pushing the show for her this year. As cool an idea as a new VMAs Brit performance is... lbr, we're likely to get something like the BBMA at best.
