I think Gaga may be trolling with the September thing. Maybe they'll pull a surprise release or say "due to overwhelming demand" and come early. VMAs feels like hers for the taking as for as new music goes, so hope she uses it.
Also keen for her to use her obvious ties with Apple Music too. Maybe have the single be an Apple exclusive for last week of August and everywhere else in September?
For all those longing for a November release, I vote "no." She needs all the "general interest" sales she can get and she'll get just that if she condenses the time between single and album. People are like sheep and want to be "part of" what everyone else is talking about. The less time she gives people to get their shade on the better.
She could still debut the song at the vmas, put the song for pre-order, have a radio deal the whole week and release it on 2nd september. IDK whether that sounds messy or not but that could be an option for sure.
