If you're a student, got with a Surface Pro 4. Especially that Surface Pro 5 is just around the corner, the Pro 4 will definitely be cheaper for you to buy. Pro 4 is the PEAK of Surface when it comes to design and innovation.

Why is everyone so pro retina? "Retina" is just a marketing gimmick.

The term "Retina" is a gimmick, but the actual improvement in overall screen quality is not.

Be weary of storage. My MacBook only has 128GB of built-in flash storage (which I use for like schoolwork and other documents) but always remember you can get a 1TB (or 1000GB) external hard drive for 80$.

Retina display? I guess it really depends. I personally can't tell the difference but I'd imagine for someone who watches a lot of TV/movies on their laptops then the retina would certainly be nice. But honestly if it's just for schoolwork, YouTube, Twitter, ATRL, etc. etc. then a non-retina display is just fine.

As someone who has had a MacBook Air I can promise you they're more resistant than they look. Plus the fact that they're so light is wonderful and makes a huge difference. When you're already carrying textbooks, documents, etc. in your backpack do you really want to lug around a heavy piece of machinery with you too?

Retina is definitely worth it if you read a lot on it, if you view and alter photos and videos, or if you like gaming. The 13 inch Retina MBP is worth the money in my honest opinion. There is no clarity comparable to Retina once you're used to it.

The display on the regular airs is hard to adjust to if you're used to Retina. I worked at Apple for 3 years I'm low key used to selling the computers without trying, haha.

Do NOT get the new Macbook. Yes, the retina display is nice, but it's an basically underpowered iPad with a physical keyboard.

Maybe wait for September/October if you can, they're announcing a huge update to the entire Mac-line, so the current models might be discounted a bit

I love my Macbook Pro 13" Retina, had very expensive laptops before this one, none came close and all were broken after two years

I had both wonderful experiences with Air and Pro, it really depends on you, but whatever is the choice, it's a win.
