TV Show: Nightly Show With Larry Wilmore Canceled By Comedy Central

The Nightly Show with Larry Wilmore is coming to an end after a year and a half on the air. The late-night show, created and executive produced by Jon Stewart and hosted by Wilmore, has been canceled by Comedy Central. Wilmore just broke the news to his staff. The program will do one more week, with its final show airing on Thursday. After that, @midnight will move temporarily in The Nightly Show‘s 11:30 PM slot (without changing its title) while Comedy Central looks for replacement.

The timing of the decision was triggered by pending new one-year renewals of the deals for Wilmore and 15 or so creative contributors in front and behind the camera, Comedy Central president Kent Alterman said. But it was something that had been brewing at the network for awhile.

The cancellation comes less than two months before the November presidential elections, a fact Wilmore pointed out in his reaction to the decision.

“I’m really grateful to Comedy Central, Jon Stewart, and our fans to have had this opportunity. But I’m also saddened and surprised we won’t be covering this crazy election or ‘The Unblackening’ as we’ve coined it,” Wilmore said. “And keeping it 100, I guess I hadn’t counted on ‘The Unblackening; happening to my time slot as well.”

Good. From the few episodes of his show that I've seen he literally made EVERY single topic a race issue. It was really redundant.

I see he's doing the same thing with his cancellation as well.

I didn't really watch much of it cause I didn't connect with his humour but but that's unfortunate. Now Trevor is the only black voice in late night.
