He likely isn't 'pandering' his godfather is fkn Elton John for Christ's sake and his mother is loved by the gays (particularly her band).
I think he was just raised right by parents who were very supportive towards the LGBT community + the family have been surrounded by the gays their entire life. Therefore he's just being supportive.
Not every hot guy that shows some love for the gays is pandering
