Discussion: is "Rise" underwhelming ?

can we have a legit conversation without the unnecessary childish shade and bickering ?
I would really love to get your input as to why Katy's latest single is underwhelming commercial success wise, it got the proper promo treatment and more (including a performance at the DNC convention) yet it's not up to par with Katy's usual standards

in your opinion what put the general public off of this song ? is it really underwhelming commercially or is this decent for nowadays standards ? was the song in itself not good enough to take off ?

The song goes nowhere. It kind of just falls flat, I don't know if that's down to Katy or the song itself but yes, everything about it is underwhelming.

I actually really like the song and I thought it was going to smash. I guess it just didn't click with people.

Not everyone can have a 5X Platinum smash from the Olympics.

she released a music video and performed it once with a melody of hits for hillary clinton. which she would have done anyways even if the song weren't even out. it just happened to fit the theme. it wasn't promo for the song, it was promo for hillary

It's honestly a forgettable song with a lazy chorus. I'm happy it's underperforming, this means that the album will go in a totally different direction

Yes to whoever said it falls flat. It's not a strong single choice. It has been in charting in the top 20 of iTunes for a while though, so it could be worse.

Roar is still occasionally being spun on the radio, and Rise just feels like nothing but an extension of Roar. I don't think people are here for her "anthem songs" anymore.

It's plodding, the chorus isn't catchy, the verses aren't memorable. Compared to every other Katy hit, it just falls very flat.

you need to learn to have a conversation without assuming that people are out to get you or your fave, I'm only stating my personal opinion you are free to disagree with me that's how conversations go, don't just condescend and throw the "calm down" at every reply you make it just shows how insecure you are about what you just said

I really don't know what to say actually! Upon reading some of the negative reviews it seems like people wanted something they could dance to and not something quite as dramatic. I absolutely love the message and stand behind the song but it just wasn't radio ready (which is fine, it was a promo single) so it didn't catch on quite as well as she probably would've liked.
