I agree that we need to work hard to resolve problems like this, but I just hate the way they are framed. Homophobes will ostracize / discriminate against gay individuals, forcing them into a hookup culture, and then when stories about this hookup culture come out, instead of digging deeper into why that may be, homophobes use it as evidence to further oppress gays, calling them disgusting sexual perverts. Then you have the gays who respond by apologizing for their community and saying it makes them ashamed / disappointed to be gay when these are problems initiated by homophobes.

Instead of making it seem like these problems are the fault of the gay community and that the gay community needs to fix them, I think we need to take a multi-angle approach to the problem. That includes gays having an open discussion about things like this, but it also includes straight people helping to end the culture of homophobia and heternormativity that gay people are born into.

It's common sense to me that a community of people who hid their sexuality because it was once illegal, were murdered, beaten and tortured later found solace in "the scene" would have just as much sexualisation and drug activity as the straights. Only we, don't have anywhere else.

We've been oppressed, abused, banned and forced into the lower parts of the class system to only have the options of criminal activity to make any success in this disgusting world. And we're not the only minority group to struggle in this manner either (just to be clear.)

Y'all need to watch Paris Is Burning or even step outside every weekend and feel the liberation of a community who knows what it feels like to be treated like ****ing garbage. Talk to your sisters, a wise old man or a drag queen that's not of the same age as you. You'll learn so much.

Yeah I know, but instead of saying ''It just happens because we've been oppressed'' , we oughta take action and do our best to work on issues such as drug abuse or dangerous hook ups or sexual acitivities.

This makes no sense. If you're gay you're probably awkawrd/shy/etc. so you're very likely to be bullied at school.

And being bullied increases the chance of suicide/leaving school etc.

Not sure why certain people join a forum mostly targeted to LGBT people, to constantly bash and make borderline-homophobic comments. Just leave the forum if you think the lifestyle of a gay man is a "danger to you".
