Should parents be responsible for paying college tuition?
I don't know about other states or other countries but in California the amount of student aid we get depends on how much our parents make. This means that we should be able to pay for our tuition since our parents are rich?
well if you receive financial aid then yes your parents should be the overseer how getting your tuition paid but chances are, if your parents are rich then they already paid it.
my parents pay my tuition though i get lots of scholarships and grants so for a school that cost 30k to attend, my parents are only paying 4k a year
Actually I've done the math if parents save at least $150-$400 a month starting the month a child is born they will have an average $40,800 saved for that child's college...
So basically they can send one child to college which means it's a "hunger games" situation if they have more than one child
Here in Canada I applied by myself, without my parents income and got financial assitanncce .. it covered 100% and 50% of books .. which was good, and i paid the rest with my job !!!
Uni in the Netherlands is 1.9k a year (The government pays the rest)
We get like 140 euros financial aid a month so 140 x 12 = 1680
So in the end students just have to pay 220 euros
Everyone can pay that obvi but my parents are still paying the 1.9k and I get to keep all the financial aid so yes parents should

Slay
But there are more college students in the state of Texas than there are in the entire country of the Nederländer
Your income determines the amount of non-merit aid you receive. Since most students are not adults with their own jobs and income, and get claimed on their parents' taxes, their parents' income is considered their own, since they're a dependent to that income. If your parents are wealthy, your need-based aid is small because your financial need is small.
If you have an issue with your parents and don't live with them or even speak to them, most colleges let you file your financial aid information as an independent, as you would your taxes.
That's one of nuances as to why "Free College" for all doesn't work. People who can pay for college shouldn't be getting aid, let alone free need-based rides. Those with high financials needs (poor people) should be getting a very large sum of the allowed funding being put into plans for Free College. Why should people who are well-off get aid when they are perfectly able to pay for things on their own?
College should be free tbqh. It represents people bettering themselves and education is good even for those who already have degrees as skills get outdated over time.
