It's not, but honestly, "everyone" wins with queerbaiting. I dislike it and will be the first to think up an essay when I see it, but I know that most gay people do not care and will lap it up. So they're satisfied, fan girls love that ish, and everyone who might have a problem with LGBT representation won't be set off. Plus it's much easier to write (throw in a few lingering looks, brief touches, and/or some nervous stuttering - get all the fangirls/boys going.)
