I gave it a six. There were some nice moments and I liked some of the messages, but the show itself honestly felt empty and distant. I thought it relied too much on projection which made every section of the show look really similar. The bad sound didn't help here either. I don't remember much of the ceremony compared to, say, London, even though I only saw that once 4 years ago while Rio was last night.
It made London look like an absolute masterpiece. London had some of the biggest music artists, the queen jumping out of a plane (I know it was fake) and James Bond, David Beckham, good atmosphere, nice visuals, Mr Bean scene, and a big ending.
It was actually quite amazing when you look back at it. People do too much on London, when it was just very uniquely British and didn't go out of its way to try and appeal to every nationality. No other country could pull off an opening ceremony like London.
A typical Rio Carnival has 10000% more vibrancy, energy and creativity than whatever that was.
And the "environmentally friendly torch" thing was hilarious when it preceded an explosive fireworks display that dissipated an extraordinary amount of toxins into the air.
It was cute but it could have been more. I get they didn't have as big as a budget as usual but they could have executed the budget they had better. Parts of it felt very rushed.
However the Olympic cauldron SLAYED That sun is so badass
The carnaval section could have been better (it was a disappointment compared to what we actually do every year) and all those country marches were an endless borefest
