“(d) No candidate shall be chosen to fill any such vacancy except upon receiving a majority of the votes entitled to be cast in the election.”

In other words, the GOP could convene another convention (unlikely), or it could ask state delegates to vote again. There has been a debate within the party about whether delegates can be “bound” to a candidate, but Rule 16 says they are.

Trump would never drop out. He already said after the Melania speech that all publicity is good publicity, he loves the attention of being the nominee.

Paul Ryan would easily beat Clinton IMO. I remember the Rubio v Clinton comparisons, Rubio wiped the floor with her every time.

But no, he won't drop out. I'm adamant that has no desire or wish to be President and didn't when he entered the race. The majority of "Trump towers" aren't actually built or owned by him - he simply leases his name. Even if he loses, everyone knows who Donald Trump is. Before in countries like the UK he might have just been a name you were familiar with: now everyone knows him. On the political landscape, Trump could and probably will be a disaster. But in the context of name recognition and people knowing him... this will be a huge success for Brand Trump.

Let's hope Trump sticks it out and continues to be messy inadvertently handing our good sis Hillary an easy win.

Before he was a relatively irrelevant wealthy celebrity, now he will go down in political history and be the subject of a lot of books and papers. He has changed presidential politics forever.

Trump won't drop out and Ryan would lose to Hillary by a mile, though the Republican party would far rather have a losing candidate they can control than a potential threat that they barely want to claim.

IDK about that...the Republican coffers would open up like Lake Mead if the Hoover Dam collapsed.
Ryan would get a massive cash infusion, and we know of most of his policies from his run as Romney's VP choice in '12 and his comments on issues as Speaker of the House. Plus he'd come in like the "white knight" to save the party...

Most of Trump's supporters are lemmings anyways...they are just following Trump because the media tells them too. If Trump were to drop out, and FOX News threw it's support 100% behind Ryan, they would obey. The ones that currently rabidly support Trump are actually a small core group of people and don't really have much sway anyways.

He's seen as a more moderate, establishment Republican who is a more principled conservative. Much like a younger Romney. Considering that Clinton doesn't have the best approval ratings, I'd say that there is a good chance he'd win if Trump dropped out today.
