She has a big fan base, and lots of Tumblr kids will buy her music because she's "cool" and "tumblr-y"

Selena never had good first week sales, the engaged portion of her fanbase is small, and she still didn't promote GFY on its run to maximize pre orders
Halsey has a good sized audience, she was a known directioner and many 1D fans liked her since then and tumblr.

She does, but her fans just stream her music.
Whereas Halsey's hardcore stans consisting essentially of "tumblr people" (hate that term) who are basically young hipsters who thinks it's cool and different to own a physical copy of an album like BADLANDS, specially in the age of streaming just went out and bought the album.

That's my explanation anyways .

selena's albums have incredible longevity on the charts

first week sales never mattered much especially when Revival is eligible for platinum certification

also selena is more of a streaming artists than buying artists hence why her TEA/SPS is always higher than actual sales

I honestly cannot for the life of me fathom the fact that Halsey sold that many albums without having any kind of a hit or buzz whatsoever

They just want to cling to the "tumblr" shade as much as they can

Because Halsey has a huge tumblr following while Selena is bigger with the GP - aka people less likely to rush out first week for an album and more likely to stream on spotify/download illegally/listen to on the radio

This is true, even if I don't like Halsey and I really like Selena.
