Given that this money is being split by multiple parties, it is indeed pitiful, especially if you look at the amount of streams. But slay, I guess.

The system is far from perfect right now because we're in a transitionary phase, and you can't expect a new platform to debut with no imperfections. Streaming royalties, pricing, rights, etc. will all change in the future.

You guys really expect for the pricing to get better when most streaming is offered for free or extremely cheap? The only way revenue will go up will be if paid subscriptions are required for all streaming services. But #TeamFree would be against that.

I don't blame artists that sell well for being reticent to adopt streaming full force at the moment but it's obvious that streaming is the future and soon they're all going to have to adapt or get left behind. The combined revenue of streams here really isn't that much less than that of sales.

Again, the system isn't perfect, so of course there are going to be changes in the future. Spotify doesn't make profits at the moment, but the company gets funding easily because it has high value. If it doesn't eventually start to make profits, obviously the business model will change.

I also want to mention that the record labels decide the value of a song. The record labels are paid by streaming services, then they disburse a very small fraction to the artists, writers, producers, etc. The streaming services aren't at fault there. If artists want more money, they need to fight the record labels.
