But everyone of the past was respected. It's only nowadays where young artists aren't respected. Maybe David Bowie was a legend in the UK I hear his stats there are great but everywhere else he is not very popular. Same with Cher (minus Believe/her acting career). If they were legends, why didn't anyone buy their music? I'm genuinely confused why yall think I'm wrong here

op: i got to know about most musicians when i was 16- learnt the fact that Madonna,Janet,Mariah and many more are definitely truly legends. Ignore the ignorant kids, that think some of the most boring musicians today come close to any legends of eras gone.
So, Just like i reconnected with good music from the past, some of you need to educate yourselves on music. You'll fall in love with the likes of Dionne Warwick, the carpenters,chic,queen,mfsb etc Good music that would slay this new boring pop-stars post 2011.

My brain almost gets dried after reading some comments, too much ignorance. I'm not a Janet fan and I'm not that fond of her music either but I know the influence she's had on some of the biggest pop stars like Beyoncé, Britney, Rihanna, pay respect to the people who paved the way for your faves.

Being a legend isn't all about sales. David Bowie and Cher stood the test of time, many people still listen to their music and they are still influencing other artists. That's what makes them legends.

And I don't see why you're so confused. These artists are constantly referred to as legends by the media and the GP. Most people clearly have a different idea of what a "legend" is than you.

I refuse to act like the amount of ignorant comments and weak drag attempts bothers me in any way, because, at the end of the day, ignorance beguiles more ignorance and that isn't going to solve anything. You can educate yourself on her music, you can choose to like or dislike it, you can even refuse her accolades as having any merit, but you can't deny there are thousands of artists and performers out there right now who will attest to Janet being a key role in their artistry. Maybe it's because the lot of you are young and inexperienced and refused to learn the history of the music you listen to today, but you all need to respect every artist for what they are worth in this industry.
