I own most of Janet's albums and respect her legacy but I drag her to the piTs because her fans keep saying she's the Queen of Pop and is more influential and iconic and Madonna should learn from Janet of being an appropriate aging pop star when she literally cancels 90% of her shows

I'm sure Janet is a legend to you all and has impact however in my opinion I don't see her as a legend. I never grew up listening to Janet Jackson's music like I did with Tina Turner, Celine or Mariah or even Whitney. Sadly, I first learned of her when I joined ATRL for that matter.

However, some Janet stans act like we HAVE to consider a legend. I'm sure many of us haven't felt her impact on the scale of Madonna, Whitey or Mariah and I would have to actively seek out her music to understand it but her music is not the tea for me. I mostly learned what I know from most Janet stans speaking about it whenever a thread like this is made.

I just don't see her as a legend. That's just me though but I'm sure many others see her as such.

And Whitney was up on stage shouting destinys child lyrics during her acceptance speech. That is what SECURE artists do.

I don't really understand your logic. Just because there are people with more of an impact than her, that doesn't make her any less of legend. Celine Dion may have sold a **** ton of records but she has barely left an impact on the music industry compared to Janet.
If you asked 5 women who are the most influential musicians of all time, they wouldn't say Bruce Springsteen or Jimi Hendrix either. That doesn't make them any less of a legend, it reflects on their (and your ignorance).

Lol there you go again. As someone has already pointed out, Janet is one of the main reasons why Hip Hop and RnB are still so closely related today as she spear headed the New Jack swing movement. Furthermore, The Velvet Ropes album was the blueprint of all the soft sensual alternative Rnb music we hear today. Without it we wouldn't have Jhene Aiko, Aaliyah, Cassie, we wouldn't have Body Party, Kehlani etc.
