There's still the music video (which guessing by her team so far, will be released at the worst possible time) and the Olympics promo (which for all we know will be a 5 sec snippet everytime they go to commercial break). This buzz single still has hope.

I don't really mind if Rise flops because it's a buzz single and so far it has peaked higher (at least in the US anyway) than three of the five singles from Prism. I still have hope for it to peak higher though.

Rise is a grower. The Olympics will force people to listen to the song and once they'll get used to it, it will smash just in time for fall

I'm just saying, when they played Phillip Phillips song Home at the last Summer olypmics all the time it kept launching to #1 on iTunes. The song has fallen off the Hot 100 and lost most of its airplay before the olypmics and then recharted and slayed radio. So Rise has a good shot here if this promo is done correctly

This. I don't understand why the haters are so quick to call this a flop/under-performance when the main promo hasn't even begun yet. We still have hope but Katy's team needs to release the music video very soon as this could be very important in its chart run.

At the end of the day, this is a buzz single not a lead single so it's performance isn't as significant as the haters let on.

I'm really not a Katy fan but you could also see it from a different perspective: with this single they are testing the waters. They won't repeat the same mistakes (no radio deal, apple exclusive, no spotify promo, not enough performances) for the real lead single, and now they know how many sales they can expect first-day and when they have to start buying the song themselves to keep it at #1.
