The anti-LGBT American Family Association has expressed outrage over a new ad for Hilton hotels that features two men in bed together.
Responding to the ad featured in Travel + Leisure magazine, the AFA issued a statement on their website.
“Hilton Worldwide shocked readers by placing a full-page ad that featured two men in bed together,” the post reads. “If Hilton had advertised two men playing tennis, cards or having lunch, that would have been reasonable.
“Travel and Leisure isn’t a gay-specific magazine sent directly to homosexual’s [sic] homes,” the AFA added. “It’s a widely distributed mainstream publication that can be found in many public places such as doctors’ or auto repair waiting rooms.”
In response, a Hilton spokesperson said:
“Hilton Worldwide is a global company of diverse cultures serving diverse guests,” the spokesperson said. “We are proud to depict and reflect our guest diversity in our advertising.”
The American Family Association (AFA) is a non-profit organization based in the United States that promotes fundamentalist Christian values.[3][4][5][6][7][8] It opposes same-sex marriage, ****ography, and abortion.[9][10] It also takes a position on a variety of other public policy goals and has lobbied against the Employee Free Choice Act.
The AFA defined itself as "a Christian organization promoting the biblical ethic of decency in American society with primary emphasis on television and other media," later switching their stated emphasis to "moral issues that impact the family."
