With the games coming up soon, it's looking like Rio is having a hard time getting it together. They could potentially still pull it together in time, but it's not looking great at the moment. With that said, would you rather have seen another one of the running cities get the games?
4 cities made the final cut (Rio De Janeiro, Tokyo, Chicago, and Madrid). Keep in mind Tokyo has the 2020 Olympics on lock!
I get the symbolism of always having the Olympics somewhere new each time, but I feel like I've seen enough about the negative effects of hosting the Olympics that they should just pick one city to be the host city forever. Preferably a city that's already done it and already has facilities.
I remember writing an article for my school paper explaining why Chicago would have been a great host city. My heart broke when we were the first ones knocked out. So seeing Rio flail isn't the worst thing that's ever happened to me
I personally would've liked to see Chicago because I know what a great city it is (despite some crime problems in parts of the city). It definitely could've held it's own if it got the games
I would've gone with Rio back then. I'd love for the games to take place in different places each time, it's just sad that Brazil looks like it's failing to deliver.
