Close all? Why would iOS, with its superior RAM management need to close anything manually? Any time an app takes up a lot of RAM, any open app is closed automatically. Be sure to tell your iOS friends that if they want to clear all of the RAM and start fresh all they have to do is hold the power button until the swipe to power off screen comes up and then press and hold the home button until it goes back to the home screen.
I'm not surprised they don't know about it. When you rarely need to use a feature it can go unnoticed. I know that when I deal with Android I'm always having to do maintenance. It's such a chore. But I suppose being able to change how app icons look comes at a price
