guys so I just adopted a new puppy from the pound
and I have a 7 year old dog

now my Dog (DJ) the 7 year old one is super jealous and mad at me

whenever I buy the puppy something I buy him something too
and I play with both equally

DJ used to wait for me at the door during the same time I get home from work
and he doesn't ever since I adopted the baby
and whenever I get near him he walks away

he wont even let me hug him

and the puppy is clueless
she just wants to follow him and he just ignores her like she's not there

your lucky, my labrador got jealous or hungry and killed our newborn puppies.

now I wont leave them near each other

Always give the older dog more attention (whether that's talking to it "good boy" or giving it small treats). Reward the older dog when it behaves etc.

This will help discipline the younger dog and make the older dog feel more important.

My older dog died earlier this month sadly, but this is how I done it with her. Now I see characteristics of her in the puppy.

Aww poor pup I hope it works out, just make the older dog feel super loved i'm sure it'll come around.

I'm sure the more you integrate them into activities together (e.g. a walk or a trip out) will cause the older dog to associate the new puppy with positive experiences. Are they trained in basic obedience (e.g. sit, lie down?) If not, buy some treats & spend around 30 minutes a day with them both (together), training them, alternating & switching your attention between them both.
