Honestly, I got it like this:
A lot of gays have high standards and probably the hotel didn't offer services that make the gay customers want to spend their money on that.
Gays (in general) are far away to be "cheap", quite the opposite actually, for sure it's not the majority of straight guys with children that spend their money in high fashion clothes and stuff like that, also because they don't care, but when gays have to spend their money, they want quality, at least me.
A banal example connected with the article, I've been in some hotels that were really nice to sleep in there but no way that I would have spent extra money to eat in there for breakfast or lunch when I saw the cheap-not inviting dishes, or orange juyce from the carton of the Discount for breakfast, like really?
There are a lot of structures like hotels or other places to think that they can sell it everything.
