Is Bioshock Infinite and Life is Strange overrated?
I played these two games this past month because everyone was telling me how great they were. But am I the only one disappointed with them?
Both of the stories are so plot driven they rely on twists, turns, time travel, and gimmicks to make themselves interesting and don't even say anything about the human condition. It feels so contrived with how in the end of Life is Strange none of your choices matter. I also didn't like how Bioshock Infinite tried to make the time traveling alternate universes so complicated and mind-boggling to make the story make sense.
The Bioshock attention to detail, combat, world-building, historical allusions, and MUSIC were absolutely breathtaking, though.
Sure for if you said it was the best video game ever.
But as an Interactive Story based game? Underrated.
It redefined the story structure that has been used since the 90's. It gave player more control than ever before. It allowed you to explore environments and discover things on your own.
I can't think of another Interactive Story game that allowed you this much freedom. Most of them were on-rails or only let you explore what's needed.
Elizabeth's "Hey look at me being quirky and fun lolz" (that was only in cut scenes) and in game play"HEY BOOKER TAKE THIS AMMO/HEALTH FROM ME IM UR ROBOT SENTRY" was perhaps the most jarring transition of any NPC companion I've seen.
Then again, not every companion can be as great as Alyx.
That's just one of many BS:I's short comings. Ken Levine really upped the pretentiousness quota by a mile and that literally drags the game down. The rail shooting forced, almost monotone, segments didn't help either.
Life Is Strange isn't bad but it is also vastly overrated.
I haven't seen a huge amount of praise for Life is Strange if I'm honest. So not really. I enjoyed it though. And Spanish Sahara.
As for Infinite, it deserves all the praise it gets. Its beautiful (but it could have been better, I still love it tho). But the original Bioshock is my all time favorite game so I'm not bothered by excessive praise for Infinite. And I'm not biased at all.
Bioshock Infinite is one of the best games I've ever played. So for this one I'd say it deserves all the praise it got. Life is strange though...Yes, overrated by critics and its fans. It's just a lil quick game.
I found Bioshock infinite kind of boring, I liked the start when you wander around when other people seem to exist but after that its just so empty and the combat is terrible in the wide open spaces and I never really connected with Elizabeth and Booker was boring and Troy Baker was so ridiculously overused at the time so that kind of ruined the character a little bit for me.
Life is Strange was great though, I think its rated about right critically.
And I'm not biased at all.
