When it opened in 2012, New York’s Out NYC was billed as a “straight friendly” hotel for glamour gays visiting the Big Apple. But after a rocky few years, the Hell’s Kitchen venue has been bought by Merchants Hospitality, who plans to give it some conversion therapy and turn it into a more mainstream hetero accommodation under a new name.
Developed by Ian Reisner’s Parkview Developers, the Out offered 150 guest rooms, plus a restaurant, spa and mega-nightclub, initially called XL. The hotel has been facing declining occupancy rates and took a big publicity hit last year when co-owner Mati Weiderpass hosted a fundraiser for Republican presidential candidate Ted Cruz at his penthouse apartment.
Last year, Reisner declared the hotel wasn’t making money because gays are “cheap.”
"This has not been a profitable venture. Gays are cheap. They’re frugal; gays are frugal. Let me retract that… gays are entitled.
Do you know how challenging it is to make a penny off a gay person? ’I’m gay, I don’t pay cover. I’m gay, where’s my comp drink?'”
ur not convincing my gay ass of it , not when drinks at a gay club are $3+ more than any straight clubs i go to and the gays are wasted off their ass every time i go out
This is so ****ed up, we need to not attack or stereotype against our OWN community.
You know how dumb that looks
Not every gay person is "cheap" what a dumb ass.
