A new unauthorized biopic on the life of late Italian fashion designer Gianni Versace has found its leading man in Antonio Banderas.
The Spanish-American actor signed on to play the iconic designer last year and began filming scenes in Milan around December, before production moves to Reggio Calabria, the southern town where Versace was born and then to Miami, where he was murdered by a serial killer in 1997.
Though the biopic doesn’t have a release date or trailer yet, a rep for the Versace estate said it “should only be seen as a work of fiction,” as members of the estate “neither authorized nor had any involvement whatsoever in the…film.

This will either win him an Oscar or be panned ala Naomi Watts in Diana.
