I wouldn't compare Fantastic Beasts to the main SW saga. It'll be more like Rouge One.
I'm sure that if another movie about Harry Potter (the character) came out, the hype would go through the roof. I heard the new script-book is already breaking records (its quality aside). Before release.

Star Wars. It's not just about movie gross, but it's cultural impact. All the merchandise. All video games. It reinvigorated Sci Fi as a genre in the 70's. It influenced so many people (directors, writers, producers, and fans alike). James Cameron stated Star Wars inspired him for many of his films. Many of Star Wars aspects were unique (the force, light sabers, etc).
