If all of the guys would have signed with Syco/Sony/Columbia, they could have been "pushed" back to 1D once the majorty of their solo careers would not reach the numbers Syco "wants to expect".

There is a reason why Nicole Scherzinger's career turned into a trainwreck in 2007 and her debut got shelved and she got forced back to PCD. Her solo manager and label were the same as PCD. Working with people with double agenda's is never a good idea.
