I don't think this is "using" him, just reassuring fans he is still on the show after everything that happened. I mean he is an actor on the show.
Entertainment weekly were the ones who got the exclusive and they reported in their article that these were photos from months ago. So they weren't that pretending these were new.
Regarding DOB's injury, since it was a head injury I really hope he took his time healing because of how serious those can be, he has always been ehh at social media so I am not too concerned about him not tweeting. He was spotted walking by himself a little while ago so hopefully he is healing on track
